Know everything about Chiropractic Care? Think again!

If you think chiropractic care is just for spinal or neck problems, you’re not alone. Many people are surprised by all the fun and interesting facts about chiropractic treatment. There’s so much more to this complex science. So let’s test your knowledge.

Did you know the following about chiropractic care:

  1. It’s a brain function booster – Brain activity can increase after an adjustment. This means better control over bodily functions, less inflammation, regulated hormones, and improved muscle strength.
  2. It treats more than your back –  While chiropractors are known for spinal issues, there are other health and wellness goals that can be addressed. With the proper techniques, your chiropractor can treat digestive issues, urinary tract issues, insomnia, anxiety, and headaches.
  3. The practice is over 100 years old – In 1895, a doctor named Daniel David Palmer, also known as the father of chiropractic care, performed the first spine adjustment. Following the treatment, his patient regained hearing after 17 years from an accident which left him deaf. Also, the word “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek words “praxis” meaning practice, and “cheir” , which means to treat by using hands.
  4. Chiropractors don’t crack backs – The cracking sound from an adjustment is a build-up of gas inside your joints. This practice helps to alleviate discomfort-causing pressure and move your skeletal structure back to its optimal placement.
  5. Never get boring – With over 55 established chiropractic techniques to choose from, you’ll never get bored with all that this therapy can offer. There’s something for almost every concern or issue that you’re dealing with.
  6.  Vitamin C isn’t the only way to raise your immunity – Did you know that chiropractic care can help you catch less colds? The entire immune system is improved with chiropractic adjustments that help increase respiratory function. Research has shown that a well-adjusted spine can help you prevent infections and fight off sickness better. This can result in fewer issues relating to colds, the flu, and sore throats.

Need another reason to visit our new location? Try the new dry needling service, which is our most recent way of pinpointing your pain for better and improved recovery. It involves a thin filiform needle to stimulate underlying trigger points, muscular and connective tissues. This newer technique is used for treatment of pain and movement impairments. These types of issues typically emerge because of an injury, overuse or poor movement patterns. Similar to acupuncture, both use thin needles to treat the symptoms. However, acupuncture restores energy flow, while dry needling targets many musculoskeletal conditions and is commonly used as part of an overall treatment plan. The Spine Wellness Center prescribes dry needling within medically-proven and measurable parameters.

If you’re interested in this technique or any of our other various disciplines, contact us today to make an appointment. We may be at a new location, but the quality high-level and specialty care for patients remains the same.

Take a Stand Against Leg Pain with Chiropractic Care

Leg pain can stop you in your tracks. Dealing with this pain is not only annoying, but also stressful. You use your legs in everything you do. The health of your legs is critical to how you move and live your life. Whether it is for your job, working out, or running family errands, you must be healthy to keep up with the fast pace of your life. Sometimes this pain can be short lived, but when your leg pain limits mobility, it’s time to take it seriously.

How does Chiropractic Treatment Help Leg Pain
Chiropractic care is rooted in the idea that manipulation of the joints and bones sets the entire healing process into motion. Although often associated with treating back pain, chiropractors can immensely help with all sorts of body ailments. Whether it’s musculoskeletal, neurological,
or vascular, they can treat and prevent pain. Through adjustment, assisting in healing, and teaching you how to prevent pain, the right chiropractor can help.

Finding the Source of Leg Pain is Key
Most knee and leg pain results from instability of the joint, tight muscles or tendons, or a soft tissue injury that has not healed properly. Chiropractic care is a proven way of reducing swelling and discomfort in the lower part of the leg. Proper adjustments of the spine and affected joints help relieve pressure, reduce restrictions and misalignments. This results in increased mobility, reduced inflammation, and an improved function of the treated joint. Sometimes, knee or leg pain is actually caused by misalignment of another part of the body, such as the spine or hips. A spinal adjustment improves the functionality of the nervous system in general, which enhances the ability of the body to manage knee, foot, and ankle pain.

See a Chiropractor for Help
It’s time to get back to living a healthy and free life. From minor to severe pain, how you move and feel depends on the strength of your legs. Chiropractic care can readjust your bones, and therefore readjust your life. If you need a chiropractic appointment, contact our clinic in Clinton, MD.

Chiropractors: The real MVP

The fall sports season is here. Whether you actively participate or watch from the sidelines, it can cause risk to your body. With injuries ranging from aches and cramps to back pain or concussion, this can be serious. Fortunately, chiropractic care is an excellent treatment for players and spectators alike. When it comes to relieving the pain from common sports injuries, chiropractors are the real MVPs. Here’s what you need to know:

Improve joint health:
Even if you train rigorously, you still may suffer a huge blow during a game. Any serious impact can disrupt spinal alignment and restrict movement, which leads to pain and tension in the joints. With chiropractic care, your body heals faster and helps minimize future injuries.

Increase mobility:
Like many of us, your hip’s flexion/extension may not be top of mind. But hips are important for both running and/or sitting. The hip rotation is key for athletic movements like turning, twisting, crouching, and pivoting. It’s also essential when cheering, jumping or sitting for long periods of time. With regular chiropractic care, your body can either play or celebrate with increased mobility and full range of motion.

Evaluate and treat concessions:
In addition to treating head and neck injuries, chiropractors can identify the signs of a concussion. Chiropractors also provide post-concussion syndrome treatment, including migraine headaches treatment and other remedies.

Stay lubricated:
Whether you’re an athlete or a fan, you should drink plenty of water, especially during warmer climates. Proper hydration improves movement, which keeps the joints loose. Also, regular chiropractic care can help joints maintain lubrication.

Manage pain with adjustments:
Chiropractic adjustments can benefit everyone. For athletes, the adjustment improves your performance to optimal levels. For fans, adjustments help ease the effects from long periods of standing and immobility on hard seats.

Winning games feels good, but chiropractic care can help you feel your best. No matter if you’re on the roster or in the stands, there is a chiropractic treatment for you. Contact us at our clinic in Clinton, Md. We look forward to serving you.

Spine Wellness Center Discusses Proper Child Backpacks

Does your child struggle to carry their backpack?  Do they bend forward to carry it or complain of tingling and numbness after putting it down?  It could be that the backpack is too heavy.  Most parents don’t list back pain as a top concern for their children, but the improper use of backpacks can cause back, neck and shoulder pain as well as bad posture.  If not properly addressed, these problems can continue through adulthood.  According to the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), a child should not carry more than 5% to 10% of their body weight in a backpack, although it is common for some children to carry up to 25% of their weight. And with more and more school districts eliminating lockers from campuses and forcing students to carry their belongings with them all day long, the result is an increasing number of children experiencing back pain.

The ACA offers tips to prevent the development of pain and poor posture of repeated backpack use, starting with the use of ergonomically correct backpacks that hang no more than four inches below the waistline.  It should have padded, adjustable straps to help minimize shoulder discomfort and distribute weight evenly along the back.  Both straps should be worn and adjusted to fit your child’s body, and a backpack that has a waist strap is recommended for extra support. A backpack with Individualized compartments makes it easier to distribute the weight of items inside and sharp or bulky items should be placed away from the spine.  A bigger backpack is not always better, the size should be proportionate to the size of the child and if too much is being carried, talk to the teacher about leaving heavier books at school.  The ACA encourages the use of backpacks on wheels only by students who are not physically able to carry a backpack due to the increased clutter they cause in hallways, resulting in potentially dangerous trips and falls.

Following the advice of the ACA will help prevent pain and injury to your child’s spine.  However, if your child is already experiencing neck, shoulder and/or back pain from improper backpack use, Dr. Anane of Spine Wellness Center can help.  Chiropractic care can alleviate discomfort and provide additional tips to help your child develop strong muscles and good posture.

Headache Relief With Chiropractic Care

Are you constantly looking down at your cell phone, working on your laptop all day, or clinching your jaw at night or during the day? These repetitive activities, combined with poor posture and/or stress, can lead to the most common type of headache: tension headaches. The pain of a tension headache is caused by muscle contractions that typically start in the neck and shoulders, travel up towards the base of the neck and eventually wraps around the head. When your headache is accompanied by additional symptoms such as nausea and/or vomiting, sensitivity to light and/or sound, seeing spots or flashing lights, and temporary vision loss, you may be experiencing a migraine. The causes of migraine headaches vary, but include anxiety or hormonal changes, to name a few. The other common types of headaches include cluster headaches, characterized by pain on one side of the head and come in clusters, and sinus headaches that occur in the sinus cavities and are accompanied by symptoms of a sinus infection like fever, stuffy nose, facial pressure, cough and congestion.

According to the Migraine Research Foundation, every 10 seconds, someone in the U.S. goes to the emergency room complaining of head pain, and approximately 1.2 million visits are for acute migraine attacks. According to the Center for Disease Control, women are twice as likely as men to report having serious headaches, and the percentage of those who report headaches decreases with age. With the climate of the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently experiencing, the stress and anxiety that can contribute to tension and migraine headaches are at an all-time high.

The good news is, there are things you can do to lessen the severity and frequency of headaches. Of course, there are over the counter and prescription strength medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen, but long-term use of these medications can cause other health issues. Therefore, complementary treatment should be considered, including chiropractic care.  The spinal adjustments offered by chiropractors provide gentle, non-invasive and non-addictive therapy that can help manage and relieve the pain of tension and migraine headaches.  These adjustments are intended to align the spine and other joints in the body, which can lead to reduced inflammation, improved joint mobility and nervous system function, and relief from stress and anxiety. If you are experiencing frequent headaches, in addition to consulting your primary care physician, seek the advice of a chiropractic practitioner.  Dr. Anane of Spine Wellness Center in Clinton, MD you may be able to help provide relief in a safe and healthy manner.
